On April 1, 1998, the Housing
Authority of the City of
Cartersville and the Housing Authority of the City of
Adairsville ceased to exist. The
Etowah Area Consolidated Housing
Authority was formed by merging
these two Authorities.
WHY ARE WE
HERE?
Through no fault of their own, many
people, whether elderly and on a
fixed income, or families who don't
have the education and/or the means
necessary to raise themselves out of
their present financial condition,
are in need of decent, safe and
sanitary housing. They deserve no
less than this. Yet, where are they
going to find this without "Public
Housing"?
You might be surprised if you could
meet some of our residents. The
general public has this image of
"Projects" as the dwelling of
derelicts and drug addicts. We have
many precious elderly, who have
nothing but Social Security on which
to survive; many of them have no
families left. We have single
parents with children, and little or
no child-support to ease their
burden. It isn't always easy to make
it in this world with two working
adults in the family, let alone one;
one who has to pay the demanding
high prices of daycare in order to
hold down a full time job.
